I am delighted to have been selected for the Opera Creation course at this year’s festival in Aix-en-Provence. The course will be run by Martin Crimp and will address issues of creating new opera in the presence of various practitioners in the field. I am looking forward to hearing lots of opera, making connections with other keen opera creators and all in the setting of the South of France!
The timing of this could not be better, as I am working on a new chamber opera with librettist Benedict Morrison who I met through the ‘Make an Aria’ scheme run by Music Theatre Wales. A section of our work was rehearsed and performed last night at the Jaqueline du Pré Concert Hall in Oxford. Judith Weir was present during the day and we were very grateful for her feedback on the work we have done so far.
